Here Are Answers Of Your Questions About [robots And Automation]

September 12, 2011 Comments off

Mark asks…

foxfire with automation anywhere?

I just downloaded automation anywhere to use with myyearbook but I dont use internet explorer, I use foxfire. Every time I try to use the web recorder it opens internet explorer not foxfire ( Foxfire is set as my default browser ). Can anyone tell me how to fix this please?!

conventi answers:

Probably by rewriting the program. It’s probably hard-wired to use IE as the browser. (Very bad programming technique.)

Susan asks…

Is there anywhere in Scotland/North England where I can take photos of Automation Robots in action?

I am starting a drawing project for my design degree and I would like to take pictures of industrial robots in motion. I understand must factory tours do not allow cameras, wandered if anyone knew any museums or factories which had such machines and would allow me to take some photos. Thanks!

conventi answers:

Try the Engineering department of your university, they are usually very proud of their robots and happy to show them off.

Also there are loads of videos on Youtube.

Carol asks…

Does anyone know where I can download Desiree Duvringe’s “Automation”? I cant find it anywhere! please help!:)?

conventi answers:

It’s on iTunes if you’re interested in being legit. But you have to switch the store to the Swedish one to buy it if you don’t live there. You can switch back after, it’s no big deal.

Robert asks…

Complete home automation?

My goal is complete and total home automation. Everything that can conceivably be automated, I want automated. Think Tony Starks house from Iron Man. Anywhere on the web where I can find DIY plans, or anything of the like. I am a complete novice, and it seems like a fun project that would eat up about a years worth of free time. Thank you for your help.

conventi answers:

Most of the systems out there that will do what your wanting to do are available only through dealers.
Most of them also will require a programmer. It depends on how much you want automated, and what you want to spend.

The best system out there still is from Crestron, its not cheap it will automate everything. Requires a certified Crestron programmer.

Elan makes a pretty good system, again requires a programmer, a little less costly then Crestron and not as cool and as sophisticated, as Crestron.

For some features like lighting Elan and Crestron still will require additional manufactures products. For lighting Lutron is still the best lighting control and both Crestron and Elan can control Lutron lighting control systems. Crestron apparently has there own lighting control system now don’t know how good it really is everyone I know doing hi-end system lighting is still using Lutron lighting.

The new kid on the block is pretty inexpensive and isn’t bad is from control 4. Now it wont do everything but for most people its pretty good. Doesn’t require any real programming so you can just add each piece as you go and looks and operates pretty good.

Very important to purchase from authorized dealer, someone that has been around for a while, and has years of experience doing these system. Go to one dealer that can do the whole system correctly do not try and piece meal it together as you will run into issues and everyone will be pointing fingers at the other. These are elaborate systems and need one dealer to make sure the system comes together professionally.

As for Audio Video system again only buy from a good hi-end dealer they have much better equipment to choose from and have the knowledge to make sure everything works well together, and sounds good in your room.

Good luck, any questions feel free to ask

35 years hi-end home audio video specialist.

Laura asks…

Help with homemade home automation?

How can I automate my room by myself? I dont want to buy machines from anywhere, I just want to make it myself. For example, saying lights on and the lights turn on. I have speech recognition software previously installed on my computer. If I need to program, please tell me which language, and perhaps a few tips. Thanks

conventi answers:

I think it is unavoidable that you would have to buy some ‘Smart Home’ hardware.

For example, there is plenty of software that will allow your computer to understand your voice and even activate a command of sorts after it has been told what to do.

However for it to control your lights, there has to be some sort of interface from the PC, or network, that will inform a control system that the lights must be turned off.

Then you need a physical piece of hardware to automatically shut off or turn on the light as commanded.

You may be able to find what we used to call a clapper, which is a light switch that replaces your conventional one and responds to high pitched sounds or clapping of your hands to turn the lighs on/off and vice versa.

Here Are Answers Of Your Questions About [robots And Automation]

September 12, 2011 Comments off

Michael asks…

Is it possible to view an archive of a site that has robots.txt?

I am looking for an archive of a post that someone had made on a site, but they have since left the site, and thus their post is gone as well. The site does not allow robots, so google and the likes do not have cached pages for it.

Any help?

conventi answers:

If you know the exact post url, you could see it as long as it wasn’t deleted, or set to private.

Joseph asks…

what is the purpose of robots.txt file in websites?

I want to know, what is the purpose of robots.txt file in websites?

How we can use it and can get benefits of it?

conventi answers:

Robots.txt is a text (not html) file you put on your site to tell search robots which pages you would like them not to visit. Robots.txt is by no means mandatory for search engines but generally search engines obey what they are asked not to do.

Lizzie asks…

Do I have to make different robots.txt and sitemap.xml on every subdomain of my website?

I have a website and 5 subdomains, and only my main homapage have sitemap.xml and robots.txt. I want all of my subdomains to be indexed by search engine. do i have to make robots.txt and sitemap.xml on every subdomain?

conventi answers:

Probably so.
You don’t want too many subdomains, because google will consider it spam, and penalize you by not showing you on its front pages.

Sandra asks…

Do I need a robots txt file for my simple one page website?

I have a simple one page text only website. I went to submit it to “Scrub the Web” search engine, and the “meta tag analizer” said I need to construct a “robots txt file” for my website. Should I do it?

conventi answers:

You don’t need a robots.txt file at all . . . It’s optional. And since your site is text only, and you want a search engine to find it, you definitely don’t need it. The robots.txt file is to stop search engine crawlers from getting tangled in parts of the site meant only for humans (like the forms for answering questions, or signing up for new accounts, that sort of thing). Also, if you’re on Google and Yahoo you probably don’t need to sign up anywhere else. Have a nice day!

Steven asks…

How do I set up my robots.txt to only allow one directory?

I just did a site redesign in a new CMS and we didn’t move one of the pieces over due to lack of time. I only want one of the directories of the old site to be crawled. Is there any way to do this other than moving all of the content I don’t want into a folder and disallowing it and then allowing the directory I do want to be crawled?

conventi answers:

Hi!

Basically it should look like this:

User-agent: *
Disallow: /thisplace
User-agent: *
Allow: /theotherplace

But look at the two links below.
For much more help.

Greetings,
/// Micke
